“We begin with Jesus. Some groups begin with Old Testament law. Some begin with the Apostle Paul. Some begin with the accumulated teaching of the church. Some begin with a set of “spiritual laws” about God’s plan of salvation or with a set of “fundamentals.” Brethren begin with Jesus. Jesus is our center of faith. He is the beginning point and the end of all that we believe (Rev. 1:8, 21:6, 22:13)”. (To Follow In Jesus Steps, Zunkel, Brethren Press 1991.)

It is safe to say without Jesus we would not be here and you may not have ever read this. Indeed, can any of us know what the Bible says or truly understand its truths without complete surrender of self to Jesus? When we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we are a new creation in Him! We are in Christ and born anew! We change and see things through His eyes and His heart. We believe that Jesus is the Truth, the Way and the Life and no one comes to the Father accept through Him. Without Jesus, we can do nothing. From the moment we accept Him, we are compelled by His love to be more like Him. So it starts with Jesus.

The Holy scriptures

As Brethren, we believe the whole New Testament is our creed. Based on 2 Timothy 3:16-17, West Green Tree believes that, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

We believe that the Holy Scriptures are Christocentric – the Old and New Testament together are God’s love story of how He brings redemption to all mankind through Jesus Christ.

We believe that the Bible is a living book. It continues to reveal to us God’s plan for our lives and His truths are still spoken to us.

Every book ever written enables you to understand the author as you read it. The Bible is different. You need to know the Author to understand what He has written. In other words, without Jesus in you heart, the Bible is just another history book. With Jesus and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the Bible is alive and holy.
